Ludwik Łazarz Zamenhof, also known as Eliezer Lewi Samenhof, was a Polish ophthalmologist of Jewish origin, the creator of the universal language Esperanto, and a nominee for the Nobel Peace Prize eight times. He believed that the main cause of misunderstandings and conflicts between people was the language barrier. A single, common language was intended to solve these problems. Esperanto is a language of hope, created with the desire to unite people.
